In the frames of its entire activities, the section of movable church items during the past decades has achieved some very important results.
In the museum collection fund of this section till the present day, there are around 40 icons dating from the XVI c. to the end of the XIX c., as well as many other church items like: metal crosses, phutires, icon-lamps, candle-sticks and other. Also worth mention are the several icons belonging to the Toplica monastery, and today these icons are an important part of the treasures of the Bitola Museum. Due to the great artistic value they have as part of the national wealth of the Republic of Macedonia, these items have been presented in several European metropolises on many occasions.
Parallel to the activities of museum work this department has also devoted their efforts to work in the field of the protection of the heritage.
Through several actions undertaken concerning the recording of the movable cultural heritage and wall paintings of rural churches and monasteries in the wider surroundings of Bitola, some 3000 icons, dating from XVI c. till the end of the XIX c. have been evidented. At the same time, during these activities more than 10 000 m2 of painted wall surfaces with wall art painting, mainly from XIX c., have been registered.
Significant activities in the field of the conservatory-restoration work of the paintings of the churches: St. Dimitrie Bitola, St. Petka Malovista, St. Bogorodica Precista Graesnica, St. Dimitrie Gradesnica (Mariovo), St. Archangel Mihail village Egri, and The Assumption of the Mother of God, village Velusina.
In the past period conservation of 60 icons dating from XVII c. and XIX c. from the church of St.Petka in the village Malovista has also been carried out.
In this department a wide range of activities, which are nearing their completion, have been undertaken, in connection with equipping of the laboratory which will provide better conditions for the processing and conservation of such items.
